SUMMER is a hectic time for the likes of catering manager Fernando Motti.

"There are plenty of job opportunities in various areas of expertise. It is a reasonably young industry and there is an incredible amount of knowledge and creativity needed."Motti, 28, graduated with a bachelor of business administration in event management at the International College of Management Sydney in 2007 and has been working as a catering manager at the Sydney Festival for the past year.He studied hospitality management in 2000 and worked overseas for six months. A diploma of hospitality management followed in 2001 and then three years with Club Med Resorts Brazil, managing corporate and leisure events."At one point, it became crucial to find the right qualification to enhance my career and knowledge, to advance faster and higher," Motti says. He started the bachelor of business administration in event management course in 2004."From specific event management to general management subjects, the course links theory to practise on a daily basis ... you learn and practise. The course also offers a nine-month paid training experience," he says.The training gave him the confidence to work in busy and creative environments, as well as the courage to use networking opportunities."The skills you learn and develop during your studies are essential and you just realise how important they are once you are out there in the marketplace," Motti says.
